Day 2

...when we woke up, after a nice night of sleeping, it turned out we were at a beautiful beach. Just off the coast we could see a rocky Island. The Lonely Planet (thanx Judith L.!) informed me that it was Kapiti Island.

We spent our morning rearranging the campervan, breakfast, and of course a walk on the beach. We were hoping to find one of the famous New Zealand Paua shells, but no...not on this beach..

Our next destination: Wanganui National Park.

There we were just cruising on the motorway, stopping now and then for a astonishing view, coffee, lunch. In Wanganui we went shopping in one of the very very big supermarkets, and they say there is a "price-war" going on in Holland... Pak 'n Save, New World, Countdown, Woolworths (just to name a few)

When we continued our journey, we realised that we might have been a bit too positive about reaching the National Park in one day. So when we were driving on this mountain road (there are hardly any other) and saw this beautiful picknick-parkingplace-thingy we decided to stop there for the night and drive to the park the next morning. It is holiday, so no need to rush.

In the morning I studied the road map we borrowed from Ulli (and Wolfgang) and I figured out that we would not be able to go the the park after all. Our trustworthy campervan was doing well, but we just had to admit it wasn't a four-wheel drive....the road to the park turned out to be a gravel road, not very suitable for the campervan.

And thus, we decided to skip the park..

Next destination: somewhere at the westcoast near Kawhia or Raglan...
